Harvesting chard

I am…

…Kirsten Bartel, a recently repatriated Canadian, who’s spent the last 10 years in Austin, Texas, and is now trying to find the rythmn of zone 3 Edmonton, Alberta.

…an experienced professional horticulturist and landscape designer who’s lived and worked on 2 Canadian coasts, for 3 botanical gardens, 1 city, and, for the last 6 years, for myself.

…a city girl.  My formative years may have been spent among the flora and fauna of woods and field but as an adult, I’m happiest with a slab of concrete under my feet.

…an unabashed foodie.  My kitchen garden grows only food I love to eat or would like to taste, and most conversations with me, at some point, become about food.

…a work-in-progress locavore.  When income and time permit, I try to buy locally grown, sustainably produced food.

I have…

…close to 20 years of hands-on experience in gardening and garden design.

…a Diploma of Technology in Landscape Horticulture from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.

…a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia.

…an Affiliate Membership to the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects.
